1 lb. chopped beef
1 C. soft bread crumbs
1 C. milk
1 egg
1 onion chopped
2 tsp. salt
1/8 tsp. pepper
1/4 tsp. nutmeg

Combine ingredients in order listed. Melt 1 Tbs. each; shortening and butter in skillet. Form meat mixture into small balls-with teaspoon. Brown meat in hot fat - few at a time, until all are browned. To drippings in skillet add 1 cup water; meantime blend 1 Tbs flour with 2 Tbs. water, stir into gravy. Return meat to skillet, simmer 1/2 hour.
