APPLE BROWN BETTY

INGREDIENTS:

4 c. sliced apples
4-5 fresh apples--we usually use canned apple pie filling)
1 Tbsp. lemon juice (we don't use this, but it does keep the apples from turning a nasty, slimy brown if you're using fresh apples and it might be sitting on the counter a few days)
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 cup raisins, optional
1/3-1/2 c. flour
1/2-3/4 c. brown sugar
1/3-1/2 c. softened butter or margarine

DIRECTIONS:

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease a baking dish--this is why the amounts for the topping aren't specific. You can use a regular pie pan, we usually use a glass bread pan or narrow casserole dish. You'll need the smallest amounts of topping ingredients for that. You can spread the apples slightly thinner, or add more of them, and put them in an 8x8 square baking dish--you'll need the larger amounts of the topping ingredients.
